Evaluation 1- Video to show ways in which my media product uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products
"Conventions
What are the typical conventions of a music video?
camera shots such as long shots, close ups and mid shots are
the most commonly used in a music video, as they put focus on the artist or
character and their emotions, as well as establishing location.
In relation to camera movements, tilts, pans and tracking
shots are the most effective, as they allow the camera to follow the artist or
character, most existing music videos combine a variety of these camera
movements.
Mise-en-scene is anything within the shot from costume,
props to lighting. The location in a music video is chosen to reflect the mood
of the character/artist or even the lyrics. Similarly with props, lighting can
connote mood, dark lighting connotes depression or fear.
Jump cuts are the most common edit used in a music video, as
usually the edits match the beat of the song, other common edits are fades and
dissolves.
The two main types of music video are narrative and
abstract. Abstract is mainly used in pop videos whereas narrative is usually
found in the indie genre.
How does my product use, develop or challenge these forms
and conventions?
Well, the style of music video I chose is narrative, as it
is more conventional in relation to my music genre. My video follows a linear
narrative.
I have stuck to conventions and used cinematography such as long
shots, close ups, tracking shots and tilts.
I used many special effects such as slow motion, reverse,
shadowing and black and white, as when researching I found many existing
products used these effects.
My Mise-en-scene reflects the tone and mood of the
narrative, as well as linking to the song lyrics, as it is conventional and
effective to do so.
The key to a professional and conventional music video is
following continuity, which I have made sure I do in my product.
Another professional and effective technique I have used is
editing to the beat as the speed of my chosen song changes throughout, so I
have matched the speed of the edits with this beat.
However my music video also challenges conventions
It is conventional to show the artist of the song in the
music video, however I have used actors as a kind of short film in my music
video.
I have also broken conventions of what theorist Laura Mulvey
calls the 'Male Gaze', as women are not sexually exploited in my music video,
unlike the majority of existing products.
In conclusion my music video both challenges and follows
conventions of a typical music video.
Thanks for watching."

Evaluation 3- Audience Feedback (1)
I have gathered the feedback of 20 media students and placed them into bar charts so they can be easily seen.
Evaluation 3- Audience feedback (2)
Because I added an open question at the end of my audience feedback questionnaire I gathered some qualitative feedback that I could not put into a graph, so instead I have randomly selected a few responses and used the website 'GoAnimate' to turn them into animated format.

Evaluation 3- Audience feedback- Focus group (3)
Here is a focus group with Alex, Claudia and Saskia (Peers from my media class) who are feeding back on my Music Video.
Do you think I have
represented my music genre well?
Alex: Yes! Yes really well! I think the mise-en-scene and
the location and the narrative does.
Claudia: I thought the narrative was really good, I didn't expect
it to be that type of narrative, but it was kind of like… I don’t know, it was
just really good and I was really gripped to it!
Saskia: I think the narrative was reinforced well with the
location and your editing and stuff!
Claudia: yeah your editing and camera angles were really
good!
Alex: Oh yes, and it was good because like everyone’s done
like boyfriend and girlfriend stories, I think it was good that it was
different.
Claudia: Yeah it was something different wasn't it! Because everyone’s
done like, love stories.
What have I done well?
Alex: your narrative, the way that you have shown your
narrative was really good. Like with your locations as well, the way it goes
from one place to another.
Claudia: yeah it’s easy to follow like a story.
Saskia: And the flashbacks as well, you get a lot of that,
and the editing.
What stood out the most?
Alex: Mise-en-scene I think
Claudia: All of it really
Saskia: The way the narrative went at the end
Claudia: I liked how, with the lyrics it said something about
‘drowning alcohol’ or something, or ‘blood’ and it was like alcohol pouring to
the sink, I thought that was good.
Evaluation 3- Audience feedback (4)
With my audience feedback so far I have only received feedback from the age range of my target audience, however, I thought it would be interesting to see what other age ranges think about my music video. So i thought the best way to do this was to ask my mum (aged 42) to post the link to my video on her Facebook, because the majority of her friends on Facebook are of older age range to my target audience. Here are some of the comments/feedback she received on the link. The overall consensus was positive.
