Genre conventions

There are many codes and conventions of my chosen genre 'indie/pop'. Here are some 'Indie/pop' artists that have influenced my ideas for my media text:

  • Lana Del Ray
  • Ellie Goulding
  • Florence and the Machines
  • Taylor Swift
1. One of the key features of indie-pop music and music videos is the use of a a narrative alongside the performance, normally involving a theme, explaining to the audience the story behind the lyrics of the song, most linking to love and relationships of the artist or characters in the song.

2.  Many indie-pop music videos use a filter over the top of clips or the entire video to give a certain idea to the viewer, such as memory, age to the video, or showing the clip in a positive or negative light.

3. Another convention of the genre is to use the mise-en-scene to show the setting of the video (usualy abstract or natural settings).

4. Through camerawork, heavy focus is put upon the artist or the main character in the music video. eg. close ups/extreme close ups.

Audience research- Blog Poll

As part of my audience research I have made a Poll down the side of my blog, asking questions relevant to my coursework. I have then e-mailed a link to my blog to every media group asking them to answer my poll.
