Narrative

The narrative of  my music video tells a story of a girl who's mother is an alcoholic, therefore she suffers from  violence at home. The girl tries to hide the alcohol from her mother by putting it in her bag, but after a fight she has had enough and grabs her bag and runs away. After seeing her daughter has run away the mother realises what she is doing is wrong and pours her alcohol down the sink, however when she tries to ring her daughter to apologise there is no answer. Meanwhile the girl is sat alone and lost in a wood when she notices the alcohol she hid in her bag, she drinks the alcohol, the amount she drinks damages her body leading to death. Did she want to die? was she copying her mum to drown her sorrows?

Filming Day 3

Today's  Location was East Park in East Hull, the aim of todays filming was to fill in the gaps shown in my previous draft. Not much filming had to be done in this shoot, as i had already finished the majority of my music video, therefore it did not take long. However, as I was filming in a public park I had to take into consideration other visitors of the park, as well as opening and closing times of the park.

First draft of magazine poster

Magazine poster

Here is my first draft (image 2) of my magazine advert as part of my ancillary text. when researching the conventions of a magazine advert i also thought it beneficial to look at existing products. When looking at existing products this one caught my eye (image 1), I like the simplicity of the magazine advert as I think it is very effective and the image used is very intriguing. I decided I wanted to take inspiration from this when creating my magazine advert, so i have used the natural imagery and subtle writing.

Second draft DigiPak

Here is my second draft of my Digipak, since my first draft I have done a lot more research on the conventions of a DigiPak. The changes I have made in this draft are:

  • I have added informative text on the bottom of the back cover of my DigiPak e.g. Publish date etc.
  • I have added the name/logo of my record label on the back of my DigiPak as well as down the spine
  • I have added "CD1" and "CD2" to my CD holders
  • I have added a relevant quote to the inside left cover, as when researching existing products I found this was conventional.

DigiPak Research

What is a DigiPak?
A DigiPak is a style of CD or DVD packaging. DigiPaks are designed to fold into a square CD case. They can fold many different ways hand have different amounts of panels. The front and back panels are the main 'promoters' of the CD and are very much used to draw in the customers.
The inside of the DigiPak is used more for information and extra bits to do with the artist/song/album. the theme of the inside packaging normally is more subtle compared to the outside packaging.
The front of DigiPaks tend to have a large eye-catching picture on them. The picture illustrated on front panels tend to have some relation to the song or artist. Also the song/album title is also found on the front panel.
The back of the DigiPak usually contains:
  • Track list
  • Album artwork
  • Barcode
  • Record label
  • Extra info
  • Band/artist name
Inside a DigiPak you can find the plastic holder for the actual Cd itself. A lot of plastic holders nowadays are see-through with another piece of album artwork behind which goes with the rest of the packaging. You can also find inside the pack itself more information and possibly more artwork to do with the disc. Extra information provided within the packaging would include song lyrics, artist information and personal messages.

Record Label

From research I found that it was coventional for my digipak to include the name/logo of the record label that the album is attatced to, on the back of the album as well as on the advertising poster. Because I do not own my own record label, yet still want to follow conventions, I decided to make my own label and logo. I have used an idea from my Foundation portfolio music magazine, as my magazine was called 'Pulse' with this logo, so i have just changed it to 'Pulse Records'.

DigiPak first draft

Here is my first attempt at creating my Cd case (Ancillary text), i have used images from my music video, as i feel it creates continuity between Ancillary text and music video, linking them together, and making them more effective. Also many existing products do this, which makes it a convention, and following conventions makes the overall product look more professional.
