Second draft

Here is the second draft of my music video, there is still some filming I need to complete. I have changed the ending to my music video as I felt the shots were too long, also I found it was effective on the last shot to have underlying faded footage in the background.

First Draft

After re-shooting some of my footage yesterday, I have now edited it. There are still a few bits of filming that I need to do, and are missing (shown by the blank black screen), but I have now filmed and edited the majority of my work, to create this first draft of my music video. I am very happy with my work so far, however there are just some bits that need editing to add to my music video, also I may add some effects on my next draft to see what they look like. I think the best idea, before creating another draft, is to get some audience feedback on my first draft, whether it be in the form of a questionnaire or another blog poll.

First Draft Section 2

Here is my second bit of footage I have filmed which is for the end of my music video, I am very happy with this footage as I feel it has really captured the effect I was trying to create, also the location in which I filmed was perfect, in relation to the mise-en-scene I was aiming for. However this editing sequence does not follow my original storyboard, as when I came to edit my footage, I found that some of the edits were too slow or too long, therefore I played around with some of the editing to edit to the beat of the music and make it look more effective.

Ancillary text planning 2

Here is another image I took on location, I again edited the image on Photoshop but this time separated the photo into two layers, to create the colour contrast. Playing around with effects like this on Photoshop is useful as it is giving me a lot of ideas for my final product.

Ancillary Text planning 1

Here is an image I had taken whilst on location filming the end scene to my music video. This image is also part of a video sequence featured in my music video. As part of my ancillary text I thought it would be effective and create consistency if my CD case linked with my music video, also many existing products do this technique. The first image is the original I had taken, the image underneath is the image after I had edited it on Photoshop. I opened up the image on Photoshop, and used the 'image' 'adjustments' tab to then change things such as the contrast and hue saturation of my image. I chose the colours red and orange because, they fit well with he theme of my music video, in the way that they connote some of the moods and features, for example 'death', in my music video narrative. I may consider using this image when creating my final ancillary text.

Re-shoot

I have planned and arranged to gather my actors in the same location to re-shoot my footage on Wednesday 22nd January (Tomorrow)

First Draft Section 1

Here is the opening section to my music video. This is just a first draft, and I have decided to re film this section of my video, as I am not happy with the outcome. I feel that this looks very unprofessional, with some shots looking 'shakey,' and in relation to cinematography I feel that some of the camera angles I have used could be improved or changed to make the piece look more effective. One of my main errors in my filming is to do with my planning, as when I started to film, I made sure I stuck to my storyboard that I had planned. However when I put this all together and edited it on the editing suite to follow my storyboard, I found it looked wrong and did not fit properly with the timing of the music, and many of my shots felt too long. To resolve this I listened to the music I have chosen, and realised there is a clear distinctive beat to the song, I then listened to the music again and this time counted how many beats there was. From doing this I decided that it would look more effective if I synchronised my edits with the beat of the song, which in this case meant I would need more footage because the majority of my shots were too long. Instead of just filming some more footage and adding it in, I felt that it would be more beneficial if I re-shoot all of my footage from this scene again, as it would improve the quality of my footage as well as eliminate factors such as inconsistency in my filming.

Although this issue has set me back in the way that I now have to re-shoot a lot of my filming, I also feel it has been beneficial as now I feel that when I re shoot my footage, I will be more aware of what i need to include and how it will look, over all making my music video look more professional and fluent.
